Celebrating Greek Independence Day

greek independence day

At Stanmore Public School we celebrated a very special day for the Greek community, Greek Independence Day.

A spectacular performance took place at Stanmore to celebrate Greek Independence Day. It was to commemorate and remember the values of bravery, freedom, and unity that the Greeks fought for.

About Greek Independence Day

Greek Independence Day is celebrated on March 25th. This day marks the beginning of a brave and important event in 1821, when the people of Greece fought for their freedom.

A long time ago, Greece was under the rule of the Ottoman Empire. The Greek people couldn't make their own choice, live their lives the way they wanted or fully celebrate their own culture. But the Greeks loved their country, their traditions, and their history so much that they decided to fight for their independence.

In 1821, many brave men and women from all parts of Greece came together. They were from villages, cities, and islands, and even though they didn't have the same weapons or power as the Ottoman Empire, they were determined. They fought with not just strength, but courage and the hope of a better future for themselves and their children.
