Student Leadership

At Stanmore Public School, there are ten elected Student Executive positions, held by Year 6 students:

  • 2 School Captains 
  • 2 School Vice-Captains 
  • 6 Prefects 

There are a further 16 elected House Captain positions held by Year 6 students:

  • 8 House Captains 
  • 8 House Vice Captains

In Term 4, Year 5 students are invited to nominate themselves as candidates for election to a student leadership position. Students who aspire to student leadership positions must consistently demonstrate Stanmore Public School’s core values:

and consistently follow the School Wide Expectations in all school settings.

In performing their roles as Student Executive and House Captains, Student Leaders are expected to:

  • Behave in an honest and responsible manner
  • Cooperate and assist students, staff and parents in a courteous manner
  • Be a positive role model for other students
  • Consistently follow the School Wide Behaviour Expectations
  • Wear full, correct school uniform to school each day
  • Lead the school with distinction and pride.

Specific Roles and Responsibilities

School Captains and Vice Captains

  • Represent the school at official functions within and outside the school
  • Prepare and present speeches and reports at school functions and assemblies
  • Present awards/gifts at special functions
  • Welcome official visitors and escort visitors around the school
  • Attend regular meetings of the Student Executive and Student Representative Council and co-ordinate student initiatives, with teacher support
  • Meet regularly with the Principal or Deputy Principal to discuss student initiatives and represent the student body in school planning
  • Show leadership, model appropriate behaviour to all students and wear the correct school uniform at all times.
  • Organise sports equipment for playground use

Prefects

  • Escort visitors around the school
  • Attend regular meetings of the Student Executive and Student Representative Council and co-ordinate student initiatives, with teacher support
  • Meet regularly with the Principal or Deputy Principal to discuss student initiatives and represent the student body in school planning
  • Show leadership, model appropriate behaviour to all students and wear the correct school uniform at all times.
  • Organise sports equipment for playground use

House Captains and Vice Captains

  • Assist staff to conduct house meetings and sports carnivals
  • Organise and lead house activities during sports carnivals and events
  • Set up sport equipment as requested
  • Support staff in maintaining sport storage areas
  • Collate and tally house points for RRR cards
