National Simultaneous Storytime

Next week, Stanmore Public School will take part in the 25th annual National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS), a nationwide event that celebrates the joy of reading and storytelling.

Throughout the week, every class at Stanmore will read The Truck Cat by Deborah Frenkel during their library lessons - not just on Wednesday, the official NSS day, but across the entire week.

Held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA), National Simultaneous Storytime brings together thousands of children across the country to read the same picture book at the same time. The event aims to promote the value of reading and literacy in a fun, engaging and inclusive way.

This year’s chosen book, The Truck Cat, is a delightful Australian picture book that explores themes of belonging, friendship and adventure - perfect for young readers. By participating in NSS, Stanmore students will be part of a shared reading experience enjoyed by children in schools, libraries, childcare centres and homes all across Australia.

Sharing a common story fosters a strong sense of connection, and at Stanmore, this event is a wonderful opportunity to build community through a love of books and storytelling.
