National Families Week: Lending a Hand to Thrive

National Families Week logo

This week is National Families Week, a time to reflect on the vital role families play in shaping strong, resilient children and the positive impact they have on communities.

This year’s theme, “Lending a hand to thrive: supporting each other,” highlights the importance of connection, care, and mutual support in helping families - and communities - flourish.

No matter what family looks like to you, this week is an opportunity to reconnect with loved ones, embrace togetherness, and appreciate the strength we draw from one another. From parents guiding children, to siblings lending a listening ear, to neighbours stepping up in tough times, small acts of kindness make a big difference.

At its core, thriving isn’t just about getting by - it’s about feeling secure, valued, and supported. When we support each other - emotionally or practically - we help build a stronger, more connected future for everyone.

Take this week to embrace the power of family in all its forms, and commit to looking out for one another - not just now, but all year round.

Strong families

  • Strong families provide children with a sense of safety, security, and belonging.
  • They are built on warmth, open communication, consistent routines, and strong connections with the wider community.
  • Taking care of your own wellbeing strengthens your family - when you're at your best, you can give your best.
