Stanmore Public School proudly fielded three senior teams and one junior team at this year’s Paul Kelly Cup - a gala day designed to introduce students to the excitement of AFL. Under clear blue skies, our teams displayed outstanding sportsmanship, teamwork, and enthusiasm.
For the first time, our Year 3 and 4 students joined in the fun, kicking off the day with skills and drills before wrapping up with a series of friendly matches against other schools.
The senior Stanmore girls' team had a remarkable run. After a tough opening loss, they faced Petersham again in the semi-final, determined to turn the tables. As the final siren sounded, a wave of cheers erupted - Stanmore had won! Their victory secured a spot in the grand final against tournament favourites, Drummoyne. Despite a valiant effort, Drummoyne proved too strong in the end.
A fantastic day of footy was had by all, and we look forward to returning next year, bigger and better!
