In our Kitchen Classroom, students cook up delicious dishes using fresh produce from our Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden. And, when it comes to passata, our kitchen teacher Ms Dimitra prides herself on making it from scratch instead of buying inferior jar sauces.
Check out this video from 2019 about our Tomato Festival and learn why it’s become such a cherished tradition at Stanmore Public School.
To keep this tradition alive, we ask for your help!
If you spot a bargain on juicy, ripe tomatoes, grab a few extra for our Kitchen. Students will transform your donations into homemade passata, which they’ll use in cooking classes all year round.
Tomatoes are especially cheap at the moment - $2.99 per kilo for Imperfect Picks at Harris Farm this week - ideal for making passata.
Last year was a bumper harvest, with over 80kg of tomatoes donated – enough to keep our Kitchen classes stocked all year long without buying a single can.
Our students took pride in making and bottling their own delicious passata, and they’re still licking their lips!
This year, Ms Dimitra is aiming even higher! She hopes not only to make enough passata for our Kitchen Classroom but also to bottle extra jars to sell at school events, helping to support our incredible Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program.
Help us make it a record-breaking year! 🍅🎉
From Tuesday, Feb 11 to Thursday, Feb 27, students will be chopping, pureeing, and bottling away—turning your tomato donations into something truly special.
Thank you for supporting this delicious tradition!
