Last week Stanmore's Premier’s Debating Challenge teams took part in Round 1 of the challenge at Camdenville Public School.
The Premier's Debating Challenge, run by The Arts Unit, is open to all NSW government schools with the aim of developing the reasoning and public speaking skills of students. In primary, the competition is open to Year 5 and 6 students and each school is able to field up to two teams.
This year Stanmore Public School has two teams in the competition, Stanmore Blue and Stanmore Red. On Thursday both teams travelled to Camdenville Public School to participate in the first round of debates for the year.
Both teams did a fantastic job in their first debates which were based on educational topics.
Team Blue
Stanmore Blue had the topic “primary school classes should swap their teacher around instead of having the same teacher all year”.
Stanmore Blue won the coin toss and took the affirmative position for this debate and their strong rebuttal skills resulted in a victory for the team.

Team Red
Stanmore Red’s topic was “primary schools should have a three day weekend”.
In this debate Stanmore Red took the negative position and presented some very solid arguments. Camdenville’s team presented some very strong rebuttals and their focus on student wellbeing won them the debate.
Congratulations to both teams for an impressive start to the season. Stanmore PS will be hosting Wilkins Public School for the second round of debates on Monday 1 July.
