The Spectacular Stanmore Book Swap

book swap

Our school will be taking part in the Great Book Swap starting Monday, March 25 until Friday, April 5.

What is the great book swap?

The Great Book Swap is a fantastic way to celebrate reading locally, learn more about Indigenous languages and culture, while raising funds for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.

The idea is to swap a favourite book in exchange for a $2.00 coin donation.

Can I swap one or more books?

A maximum 2 books

Please bear in mind book donations should be books that others will enjoy and should be in good condition.

What if I don’t have any books at home to swap?

That’s okay! In exchange for a $2.00 donation students can choose a book from the Book Swap table in the library.

Remember that all the money raised is going towards buying books for children in remote Aboriginal Communities that don’t have the same access to books that we have here in Sydney.

Where do the gold coin donations go?

All donations will help fund the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF) Book Supply program, which reaches over 400 remote Communities.

This year the ILF aims to raise $180,000 to gift thousands of culturally relevant books to communities that need them the most.

How does it work?

  1. Bring in a book you have really enjoyed reading and that you think others will enjoy reading too.
  2. Drop your book into the Library together with your $2.00 donation.
  3. Choose a new book to take home from the books that have been donated by others.
  4. You can do this before school or at lunchtime from Monday, March 25 until Friday, April 5.

Tips

  1. Please only donate books:
    • that are in good condition (not falling apart)
    • that are suitable for K-6
  2. Do not bring in preschool books or cardboard (baby) books

Remember - if you enjoyed reading the book, it is likely someone else will too!

Who are the Indigenous Literacy Foundation?

The Indigenous Literacy Foundation is a charity that works with remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities across Australia.

They are led by the community and respond to requests from remote Communities for culturally relevant books - such as early learning board books, resources, and programs. They also support Indigenous Communities to create and publish their stories in languages of their choice.
