Stanmore students Xander (4/5B) and Akira (3/4B) took the stage at the Sydney Opera House this week as part of the Festival Orchestra for the Festival of Choral Music, organized by the Department of Education’s Arts Unit. They performed each night alongside 700 primary school students – an impressive total of 3,500 students throughout the week. The orchestra also featuring in special performances with the NSW Public Schools String Sinfonia.
Xander reflected on his experience, saying, “The best thing about being part of the orchestra is playing music with all of the other members. It feels really cool to play on the stage of the Opera House.” Akira, the orchestra’s youngest member, added, “It feels very good, I feel very focused when we are all performing together. So many people are watching me each night, and I feel very responsible and proud during the performance.”
Despite the demanding schedule, both students have maintained 100% school attendance. Although, when asked about how he was coping with the long days, Xander smiled and replied, “I am very tired!”
We are very proud of their achievement and hard work.
