Exciting results at chess tournament

chess tournament

Last week 9 students represented Stanmore Public School at the Sydney Academy of Chess Inter School Chess Challenge.

We would like to congratulate Alec, Avery, Darcy D., Darcy T., Evie, Felix, Jake, Patrick and Toby.

For the majority of our competitors, this was their first Chess Tournament, and we are excited to announce that the team placed fifth overall. Sadly, the team will not progress to the regional finals and only missed qualification by one point.

Alec won 5 out of his 7 rounds and was awarded second place in the under 9’s division, narrowly missing out on first place due to a tie break.

We would like to thank Ms Maguire for supporting the team on the day, thanks also go to Mr Lade who coordinates our chess team and Ms Elexa who teaches Chess Club each week.
