Taronga Zoo Excursion

taronga

On Tuesday 22 October Year 1 and 2 students boarded buses and headed off for a day of exploration and learning at Taronga Zoo.

As part of our science unit on living things students participated in a Backyard Buddies education session. Classes also enjoyed meandering through the zoo exhibits and attending some of the live shows.

2P prepared a short diary for the day that they would like to share.

Our day at the zoo

2P arrived at the zoo and our first stop was for a class photo in front of the giant gorilla.

As we wandered down the hill we spotted the giraffes and stopped for a look. We were very impressed with the amazing view of Sydney Harbour.

Ms Sonia’s cousin has worked at the zoo for 40 years! We really enjoyed watching the seal show and learning about the different seals and why it is so important to keep our waters clean. Ms Sonia even got to go up and meet Bondi, one of the seals.

We did lots of walking and talking on the day which was really fun.

After a break for lunch we went and participated in the Backyard Buddies session. We learnt all about the minibeasts that live in our trees and bushes.

We also had the chance to meet a blue tongue lizard and build a lizard lounge for her. She seemed to really like it!

Finally we got up close with a snake and Frances had a quick pat.

“When we went to the zoo I had a good time because I saw the seal show. The seals did amazing tricks like standing on their hands and trying to touch a hanging ball.”
- Frances M

“I had a great time at the zoo. My favourite part was when we got to see and pat the snakes.”
- Eve M

“When we went to the zoo we saw amazing animals such as giraffes, seals, chimpanzees and elephants. Lastly we got to see the cassowaries.”
