Blue Mountains children’s author, Jodie McLeod, visits Stanmore Public School.

This week, Year 2 were enthralled by Jodie McLeod’s author talk, where she engaged students with her reading of Black Cockatoo, One Feather Blue.

Jodie excited students with her tips for story writing. Her top tip being to adventure out on to bushwalks to ignite ideas, using your senses and a sharp eye, to closely observe the environment around you.

She also enchanted students with the drawing process of illustrator, Eloise Short. There were many “HOW DID SHE DRAW THAT?!” comments made in awe of Eloise’s sketches.

Inspired by Eliose’s detailed illustrations and Jodie’s descriptive language, Year 2 students have created their own lyrebird drawings from Jodie’s books - Leonard the Lyrebird and Lyla the Lyrebird. We hope you enjoy them.

Thank you to the Year 2 teachers for organising the author talk, and to Mrs Metzner and Deb Abela, for accommodating the talk in the library on Monday.
