Double the smiles

04 Feb 2026

This year we welcomed a record Kindergarten cohort, including four sets of twins, making the first day extra special.

With a record number of Kindergarten students starting this year, our staff have plenty to smile about.

As reported in the national press this week, among the 90 students who began on Monday are an unprecedented four sets of twins. It’s a special milestone for the school and a joyful start for families.

Our principal, Ben Heinecke, said it was “truly special” to welcome so many twins into the cohort.

“These kids have been together through everything,” he said. “Seeing how they support each other adds a lovely dynamic to the playground.”

For parents, the first day brought excitement, nerves and a few extra logistics. Lucy Meagher, whose twins William and Pippa are in the same class, described the experience as a “two-for-one deal”.

“Twins mean double the joy and double the chaos, so the first day of school feels like a small miracle,” she said.

William and Pippa came home buzzing with energy, happy with new friendships and a celebratory end-of-day iceblock.

Kristelle Dieham’s twins, Harriet and Addison, were also placed together to help ease their transition into school. While they shared a classroom, they spent much of the day exploring independently.

“One came out energised and the other drained – total polar opposites, but they still had a good day,” Kristelle said.

It was a memorable first day for students, families and staff alike, and a wonderful way to begin the year at Stanmore Public School.
