Sports program

Stanmore Public School has a proud tradition of sporting excellence. Our students take part in a wide variety of sports and physical activities that cater to all ages, interests and abilities. Through sport, we encourage teamwork, resilience, fair play and the Stanmore spirit of striving to do your best.

At Stanmore, we believe sport is for everyone from our keen competitors to those simply discovering the joy of being active. Through every game, race and relay, our students demonstrate the Stanmore spirit: teamwork, perseverance and pride.

Physical education and school sport

Sport and physical education are an important part of school life at Stanmore. All students from Kindergarten to Year 6 participate in regular sport and Physical Education lessons as part of the Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) curriculum.

To give every student the opportunity to develop their skills and confidence, we engage qualified external coaches to deliver targeted programs in sports such as tennis, gymnastics, athletics and dance. These sessions provide expert instruction and help students build coordination, fitness and a lifelong love of being active.

School sports carnivals

Each year, our students look forward to our three major sporting carnivals: Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics. These events are a chance for students to challenge themselves, cheer on their peers and celebrate house spirit.

Students in Years 3–6 who achieve qualifying results at school carnivals go on to represent Stanmore at the Balmain Zone Carnivals, where they compete against neighbouring schools. Many of our students have achieved outstanding results at zone, regional and even state levels in recent years, reflecting the strength of our school’s sports program.

Students in Kindergarten to Year 2 also participate in a dedicated sports carnival mid-year, designed to build confidence, participation and fun through modified games and skill-based events.

Primary School Sports Association (PSSA) Competition

Stanmore Public School proudly competes in the Balmain PSSA inter-school competition, fielding Junior (Years 3–4) and Senior (Years 5–6) teams. Each Friday, students represent our school in a variety of sports, developing teamwork, leadership and sportsmanship while competing against other local schools.

Our teams have enjoyed consistent success in recent years, with several Stanmore sides finishing top of their competition ladders and progressing to zone finals. Beyond the results, the true success of our PSSA program lies in the pride and camaraderie our students show each week as they wear the Stanmore colours.
