Stanmore student selected for prestigious dance ensemble
19 Mar 2026
Year 6 student Willa Watson-Shepheard has been selected for the 2026 NSW Public Schools Sydney Dance Ensembles, recognising her talent and dedication to dance.
This year, Willa from 5/6G has taken a major step forward in her dance journey, earning a coveted place in the 2026 NSW Public Schools Sydney Dance Ensembles program. Open to talented students in Years 4–12 from NSW public schools, the Sydney Dance Ensembles offer an exciting pathway for young dancers to extend their skills and performance experience in a highly supportive environment.
Held at the Australian College of Physical Education (ACPE) in Sydney Olympic Park, auditions took place on 23 February 2026 as a full-day workshop where students participated in warm-ups, technique sessions, improvisation tasks, and choreographic performance. Students were encouraged to demonstrate versatility, responsiveness, and creativity on the day.
Among a competitive field of dancers from across Sydney, Willa, representing Stanmore Public School, impressed the audition panel with her technical confidence, artistic expression, and commitment to growth. Her success means she will now join weekly after-school rehearsals with other ensemble members under the guidance of professional tutors and industry professionals.
The Sydney Dance Ensembles program not only deepens students’ training but also connects them to performance opportunities throughout the year, including in The Spotlight Dance Festival. Participation demands dedication, resilience, and teamwork, qualities Willa brought to her audition and will continue to develop through the season.
We congratulate Willa on this wonderful accomplishment and look forward to watching her flourish on stage and in the studio representing Stanmore throughout 2026!
