Young artists selected for Operation Art

Two talented Stanmore Public School students have been selected to represent the school in the prestigious Operation Art program, recognising their outstanding creativity and artistic achievement.
Stanmore Public School participates in Operation Art run by the New South Wales Department of Education Arts Unit annually. Operation Art celebrates the creative talents of students across New South Wales, with selected artworks displayed in children's hospitals at Randwick and Westmead to brighten the days of young patients and their families.
This year, our classroom teachers were invited to submit up to five artworks created by their students during Semester 1. A panel of teachers then reviewed the entries and selected two outstanding artworks to represent the school.
We're excited to share that Word Catcher by Aoife (1D) and Ned Kelly rides again by Douglas (3/4L) have been chosen as Stanmore Public School's official entries for this inspiring initiative.
We wish Aoife and Douglas every success as their artworks continue through the Operation Art program and look forward to seeing where this exciting opportunity might take them.
Operation Art goals
Continuing on with our new exhibition model, our goal is to represent students and schools across the state, celebrating their creative achievements in the most equitable and accessible ways possible.
All artwork entries received by schools this year will be exhibited in galleries across NSW in 2026, according to the regions where the students’ schools are located.
As always, a team of judges will select 50 artworks to be gifted to the Children’s Hospital at Westmead and these works will continue to be displayed at the Art Gallery of NSW annually, as well as being displayed in their local gallery in the larger exhibitions.
Operation Art is an initiative of The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in association with the New South Wales Department of Education.
The program includes exhibitions, workshops and professional learning opportunities in visual arts for teachers and students from all schools in NSW.
The Arts Unit, part of the NSW Department of Education, delivers inclusive, high-quality programs in the arts, language and literacy education. Through performances, workshops and specialised opportunities for high potential and gifted students, it helps young people develop creativity, confidence and talent.
