Student artwork achieves national recognition

A passion for endangered animals has helped Stanmore student Arthur D (3/4M) earn a place among Australia’s young environmental artists.
Last year, Arthur created a painting of an Orange-bellied Parrot after learning about endangered animals with Ms Cassar in 2C. His artwork has now been selected as one of just 60 youth finalists in the Northern Beaches Environmental Art & Design Prize, from more than 700 entries from across Australia.
It is a wonderful achievement and a chance for Arthur’s artwork to be seen and celebrated by the wider community.
The finalist exhibition is on display at Curl Curl Creative Space until 20 September. Visitors can also vote for their favourite artwork in the People’s Choice Prize.
We are incredibly proud of Arthur and the creativity, care and environmental awareness behind his wonderful artwork. Well done, Arthur!
Orange-bellied Parrot
The Orange-bellied Parrot is one of Australia’s most threatened birds, with fewer than 50 thought to remain in the wild. Listed as Critically Endangered, the species faces threats including habitat loss, introduced predators and disease. Conservation programs, including habitat protection and captive breeding, are helping, but much more work is needed to secure its future.
