Strong start for Stanmore debaters

28 May 2026

Stanmore Public School’s debating teams made a fantastic start to the season, with both teams winning their first-round debates at Newtown North Public School.

Despite travelling through heavy rain and arriving slightly late after train delays, students quickly settled in and prepared their arguments with enthusiasm and teamwork. The first team, the Cockatoos, debated the topic “That all homework and assignments should be done in a group” and impressed the adjudicator with strong rebuttals and confident speaking to secure a 2–1 victory.

The second team, the Kookaburras, continued the success with an outstanding performance, winning all three clashes in their debate.

The day gave students a wonderful opportunity to build confidence, think critically and work together under pressure. It was especially pleasing to see students supporting one another and representing Stanmore Public School with such positivity and determination.

Congratulations to all of our debaters on a successful and memorable first round!
