Spelling Bee regional finals

13 Aug 2026

Two Stanmore students showcased their spelling skills, confidence and determination at the Regional Finals.

Two Stanmore Public School students proudly represented our school at the Regional Finals of the 2026 NSW Premier’s Spelling Bee on Tuesday 4 August.

Our Junior finalist, Rose C (3/4V), performed exceptionally well, successfully spelling tone, museum and deteriorate in the first three rounds. Her impressive run came to an end in Round 4 when she tackled the Level 4 word translucent.

In the Senior division, Isabella W (5/6G) approached the challenge with confidence. She correctly spelled fraud before being eliminated by the word electrician.

Reaching the Regional Finals is a wonderful achievement and reflects the students’ hard work, determination and love of language. We are incredibly proud of Rose and Isabella for their efforts and for representing our school so well.

Congratulations, Rose and Isabella, on a fantastic achievement!

The Benefits of Participating in Spelling Bees

Participating in spelling bees helps primary school students develop more than just spelling skills. It strengthens vocabulary, language awareness, concentration, memory and attention to detail, while encouraging students to think carefully under pressure. Spelling bees also build confidence, resilience and perseverance as students learn to embrace challenges and learn from mistakes. These skills are valuable beyond the classroom, helping children become confident communicators, independent learners and resilient problem-solvers in their future education and everyday lives.
