Mental Health Month
18 Sep 2025
Next month is Mental Health Month, an opportunity to celebrate the small steps that build lifelong wellbeing.
October is Mental Health Month in NSW, a time to reflect on the importance of looking after our wellbeing. We believe that promoting positive mental health is just as important as supporting our students’ learning.
This year’s theme, “Taking Steps on Your Wellbeing Journey,” reminds us that looking after our mental health is a lifelong process. Every step counts, whether it’s trying something new, asking for help, or simply taking a moment to pause.
Primary school years are a key time to build healthy habits and develop resilience. By teaching children to recognise their feelings, reach out for support, and celebrate small steps forward, we can help set them up for a lifetime of wellbeing.
At Stanmore Public School, we encourage students, staff and families to embrace Mental Health Month as an opportunity to check in with ourselves and each other. Together, we can create a supportive school community where every child feels valued, safe, and strong.
Promoting health habits
Good mental health is essential for children’s social, emotional, mental, and physical development. It helps them build resilience and navigate the challenges of growing up.
Loving, supportive relationships play a crucial role in promoting positive mental health, as does learning to manage emotions effectively. Physical health is another key factor, encouraging your children to stay active, eat well, and get quality sleep, are vital for their mental well-being.
If you have concerns about your child’s mental health, start by having an open conversation. There are many resources and support options available to help them manage the challenges they may face.
Students can always talk to our School Counsellor if they need someone to listen and support them.
If extra help is needed, there are also confidential services available, including:
