Big feelings, smart problem solving
12 Jun 2026
Learning how to handle everyday challenges is an important part of growing up, and a simple activity called “Big Deal, Little Deal” can help children build those skills with confidence.
The activity encourages children to sort problems into different sizes, from small issues they can solve themselves to bigger problems where they may need help from a trusted adult. It gives children the chance to pause, think about their feelings, and choose positive ways to respond.
For primary school students, this kind of learning can strengthen resilience, problem-solving skills and emotional awareness. It also helps children understand that while some problems can feel overwhelming in the moment, there are always strategies and people available to support them.
Activities like these support student wellbeing and encourage open conversations between children, families and teachers. Together, they help create calm, confident learners who feel supported both at school and at home.
