National Cheerleading Championships
24 Feb 2025
In December, Anya Nadezhkin (Year 4) and her team, Rogue, from Sydney All-Star Cheerleading, competed in the Australian All-Star Cheer Federation Nationals on the Gold Coast.
In a highly competitive Junior Level 1 division, Team Rogue secured an impressive 5th place.
Known as The Nationals, this event is the third-largest cheerleading competition in the world and the biggest held outside the USA. It brought together over 12,000 elite athletes from across Australia and Oceania, with more than 30,000 spectators in attendance.
Beyond the competition, Anya embraced one of cheerleading’s most cherished traditions - cheer pegs! Cheerleaders decorate wooden pegs with good wishes and exchange them with teammates, competitors, and even strangers, a tradition known as pegging. For The Nationals, Anya prepared hundreds of pegs, so many that her suitcase exceeded the airline weight limit! By the end of the five-day event, she had gifted countless pegs and returned home with a collection of pegs from others - each carrying a special memory.
If you’re child is looking for a challenging, competitive, and fun sport with an incredible team spirit, cheerleading might be for them.
Congratulations to Anya and her teammates on their fantastic achievement, and we wish them best of luck for future competitions.
