At Stanmore Public School, we’re passionate about helping all our students build strong foundations in reading and writing.

Through a Structured Literacy approach, our teachers use explicit, systematic, and evidence-based strategies to support every child’s literacy journey.

All of our K-3 and support teachers have been trained in the Structured Literacy Program - a proven method that teaches reading and spelling in a clear, step-by-step way and designed to explicitly teach our students the knowledge and skills that they need to break the code in reading and writing. In Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2, students develop core skills like phonics, decoding and spelling, while also building comprehension and written expression.

This approach ensures that every student receives the support they need to become confident, capable readers and writers, setting them up for success throughout their schooling.
