Enter the Young Archie competition

The Art Gallery of New South Wales invites budding artists between the ages of 5 and 18 to submit a portrait for the Young Archie competition.

Portrait must be of a person who is special to you – someone who is known to you and who knows you and plays a significant role in your life.

There are four age categories:

5-8 years
9-12 years

13-15 years
16-18 years

To be considered for selection, an entrant must comply with all entry instructions and conditions.

Eligibility

5–8 year category: born 4 March 2016 to 3 March 2020
9–12 year category: 4 March 2012 to born 3 March 2016
13–15 year category: born 4 March 2009 to 3 March 2012
16–18 year category: born 4 March 2006 to 3 March 2009

Key dates

Entry forms available online: 28 January – 3 March 2025

Entries must be received: before 3 March 2025, 5pm

Finalists and honourable mentions announced: 1 May 2025

Young Archie exhibition at the Art Gallery of NSW: 10 May – 17 August 2025

Salon des Refusés at SH Ervin Gallery: date to be advised

Winners announced: 5 July 2025
